Roosevelt (RC) Chafin
Lebanon, VA- Roosevelt (RC) Chafin, age 87, went to be with the Lord on Friday November 27, 2015 at his home.
R.C. was born October 2, 1928 in Castlewood, VA the son of the late Grover Cleveland Chafin and Elsie Meade Chafin.
R.C. is survived by his wife Shirley of 61 years, son: Jim R. Chafin and his wife Lisa of Lebanon, Daughter: Susie Chafin and husband Curtis Eden of Lebanon, four grandchildren: Joey Statzer and wife Jessica of Bristol, VA, Jason Statzer and wife Amanda of Abingdon, VA, Cassie Schaeffer and husband Ray of Pulaski, VA, Cory Chafin and Fiancée Haley of Abingdon, VA, Great-grandchildren: Madeline and Brady Statzer, Caleb Chafin, and Trey Schaffer. R.C. was also survived by four sisters: Virginia Loftus, Etta Boughton, Lexie Snead, Lou Huffman several nieces and nephews; special niece, Phyllis Robinette.
The funeral service will conducted at 8pm Sunday November 29, 2015 in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Scottie Perkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm prior to the funeral service. Entombment will be held at 11am Monday November 30, 2015 in the Ketron Memorial Garden Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be nephews Sam, Roger, Gary, Rick Statzer, Elmo Warner, Chris Huffman, Jack and Wayne Chafin.

ALMA JACKSON WILSON
Alma Jackson Wilson, age 89, of Lebanon, Virginia, passed away on November 24, 2015, at home. Alma was born in the Corner section of Russell County, on October 5, 1926, to Fred and Virgile Yates Jackson.
In addition to her parents, Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Swanson Wilson, Sr., one son, Richard Lee Wilson, two sisters, Lillian Jackson Settle and Marlyn Jackson Griffith, and two brothers, O’Brien Jackson and Jerome Jackson.
Alma was a lifelong resident of the area and a long-time member of the Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church.
Survived by her two devoted sons: Claude Swanson Wilson, Jr. and wife Shanda, of Lebanon, and John David Wilson and wife Jacquie, of Pflugerville, Texas; one sister, Judy Jackson Breeding, of Lebanon; and, one brother, Almerine Jackson, of Lebanon.
Alma’s beloved grandchildren are, Jennifer Wilson, of Carpinteria, California, Adam Wilson, of Kingsport, Tennessee, Shina Wilson, of Kingsport, Tennessee, Christina Wilson, of Washington, DC, Thomas Wilson, of Pflugerville, Texas, Josh Rash, of Lebanon, VA, and Brianna Rash, of Lebanon, VA. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.
Alma graduated from Lebanon High School (class of 1945) and West Virginia Business College, in Bluefield. She worked in her husband’s law practice for many years, before his untimely death in 1965. While raising three young sons on her own, she was employed by the Russell County Board of Supervisors, as Assistant Administrator. In her later years, she managed the Lebanon Hospital’s Gift Shop, as well as volunteering as an usher at the Barter Theater, in Abingdon.
Alma’s life will be celebrated with a viewing on Friday, November 27, 2015 from 6 PM until 9 PM at Combs Funeral Service. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, at 1 PM at Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Timothy Hankins and Rev. Charles Dilks. Interment to follow at Russell Memorial Cemetery, in Lebanon. Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.

Ruth Hope Hall Akers Beavers
CLEVELAND, VA- Ruth Hope Hall Akers Beavers, age 54, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2015 in Johnston Memorial Hospital
She was born January 1, 1961 a daughter of the late Herbert and Minnie Paige Hall. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by son, Bobby Akers; brother, Hubert Hall and a sister, Mary Ellen Hall.
Survivors include two daughters, Crystal Akers and Stacy Akers, both of Lebanon; one son, Tracy Akers, Cleveland; one brother, Herbert Ray Hall, Cleveland and two grandchildren, Alissa Hess and Carissa Akers.
A gathering of friends and family will be at the funeral home from 4 until 5 p.m., Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the funeral home.

LEBANON-Vernon Taylor, age 92, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2015 in Lynchburg, Va.
Vernon was born January 23, 1923 in Dickenson County, Va. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was a retired employee of Pittston Coal Company. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Tracy Leigh Ray.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Madge Taylor, Lebanon; one son, Danny Taylor and wife Darlene, Lynchburg; two grandchildren, Tristan Daniel Ray and Dillon Walker Ray both of Lebanon.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2015 in the Combs Funeral Service chapel with the Rev. Jody Breeding officiating. Entombment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Lena (Granny) Jessee
LEBANON, -VA Lena (Granny) Jessee, age 96, went to be with the Lord November 18, 2015 in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Lena was born July 18, 1919 in Tazewell County, a daughter of the late Bessie and Will Willis. She was a 1938 Temple Hill High School graduate and was the oldest member of Memorial Chapel Church. Lena was treasure for over 50 years. She was a homemaker and her passion was her love for God, family, friends and making quilts.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years: Maynard Jessee; Daughter: Linda Jones; sisters: Mary Blevins, Helen Skeens, and Catherine Walker; brothers: Burns Willis and infant brother: Billy Willis.
Survivors include one daughter: Brenda Ross and husband Ted, Dungannon, VA; one son: Roger Jessee and fiancée Debrah Taylor, Lebanon, VA; son-in-law: Ray Jones, North Carolina; foster son: Mike Sexton and wife Pam; grandchildren: Donna Powers and husband Forest, Tim Jessee and wife Brenda, Meadowview, VA; Diane Hall, Dungannon, VA; Tiffany Young and husband Joseph, Big Stone, VA; Lynsey Lloyd and husband Le Andrew, South Carolina; and Chad Jones, North Carolina. Great-grandchildren: Kelli Dingus and husband Nick, Brandon Powers and wife Megan, Justin Jessee, Jordon Young, Gavin, Bryleigh, and Mason Lloyd; great-great-grandchildren: Isabella Grace Dingus, Keaton Ray Dingus; Also several nieces and nephews survive.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 am Saturday November 21, 2015 in the Combs Funeral service Chapel with the Bro. Jonah Shoop and the Bro. Sammy Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Russell Memorial Cemetery in Lebanon. The family will receive friends after 6 pm Friday, November 20, 2015 at the funeral home. Helen Smith Barton
LEBANON, Va.- Helen Smith Barton, age 91, went to be with the Lord, Monday, November 9, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Helen was born April 2, 1924, in Russell County, a daughter of the late Giles B. Smith and the late Lillie Mae Garrett Smith, and the wife of the late Harvey William Barton. She was a retired employee of Russell Manufacturing Corporation in Lebanon and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, William Darrell Barton, and Marcus Dean Barton; son-in-law, Roger Lee Boyd; four brothers, Jack, Harvey (Bruce), Paul Banner, and Charlie Smith; and one sister, Clara Barton. Survivors include three daughters, Helen Proffitt and husband, Ron, of Abingdon, Va., Harvelene Barton Boyd of Lebanon, Va., and Carolyn Barton Britton and husband, Floyd, of Lebanon, Va.; 11 grandchildren, Katrina Crise, Chris Proffitt, Olivia Proffitt, Harvey Boyd, Joseph Boyd, Reginia Duck, John Scott, Mark Scott, Matthew Scott, Jason Barton, and Dena Barton; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucy Smith Barton, of Cleveland, Va., and Nada Smith Blevins,Lebanon, Va.; and two brothers, Arthur “Buck” Smith and wife, Gaynelle, of Mill Creek, Va., and Bill Smith and wife, Becky, Johnson City, Tenn. Lydia Marie Kiser
Lebanon, VA – Lydia Marie Kiser passed from this life Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at her home.
Lydia was born in Lebanon General Hospital the first daughter of Charles (Swabby) Kiser, Jr. and the late Mary (Adge) Alice Munsey Kiser. Lydia was a 1973 graduate of Castlewood High School. She was a dedicated employee of the Russell County Dept. of Social Services for 37 years, starting as a clerk, advancing to a Benefit Specialist and highly regarded as one of the best Title IV-E workers across the state. Lydia loved reading, gardening, and bird watching. She was a talented artist, musician, and avid Duke Blue Devils Basketball fan.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her special friend Bill Bolling.
Survivors include her father Charles C. Kiser, Jr Castlewood, VA, two sisters; Toni Fugate, Abingdon, VA and Missie Johnson and husband Darius, Abingdon, VA, two special nieces Ivy Grisanti, Lexington, KY and Mary Margaret Johnson, Abingdon, VA. Her special feline companions; Hermione, Hershel, Mitty, and her work family at Social Services.
A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday, November 8, 2015 from 2 until 4 p.m. in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel.
