Ruth Stebbins

Ruth Stebbins, age 88, of Lebanon VA fell peacefully asleep on February 21, 2015 at home.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and a dedicated servant of Jehovah God. Born and raised in Pennsauken, southern New Jersey, she lived in Lebanon VA for the past 7 years. During her full, active life she worked as an accountant for many small businesses and, in fact, continued working as a professional tax preparer until just two weeks before her death. Typical of her self-sacrificing spirit she provided her professional services without charge to anyone who could not afford to pay.

Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband, Martin, of 65 years, in 2013. As a faithful wife she moved residences multiple times during their marriage when Marty was transferred by his employer to Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois and Maryland. Following Marty’s retirement they lived in Ormond Beach, FL for 8 years where Ruth owned and operated Alimar Tax Service before returning to their native New Jersey and, finally, moving in with their daughter and her husband in Lebanon VA in 2008.

She is survived by her only child, Connie Turpen and her husband, Bill, of Lebanon VA; granddaughter, Michelle Turpen, of West Chester PA; grandson, Michael Turpen and his wife, Kimberly and great granddaughter, Nadia Turpen of Fort Collins, Colorado; and innumerable spiritual brothers and sisters throughout the world.

Ruth was an active member of the Lebanon VA Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and regularly volunteered to teach others the Bible. Always generous and self-sacrificing, Ruth consistently put the interests of others above her own. With strong faith in the Bible’s promise and the ransoming power of Jesus Christ’s shed blood, she looked forward to sleeping peacefully in the grave until being resurrected to live forever in a paradise on earth with her family, friends and a worldwide united brotherhood. She regularly shared this clear Bible teaching with others using scriptures such as Ecclesiastes 9:5,10; Acts 24:15; and Psalm 37:29. She recognized that death is an enemy, occurs due to imperfection and not the will of our loving God. (1 Corinthians 15:26; 1 John 5:7)

A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 77 Green Valley Road, Lebanon VA with good friend and spiritual brother Michael Cook presiding. In addition, a brief graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 4 at Arlington Memorial Park, Pennsauken, NJ with grandson Michael Turpen presiding.  The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the worldwide charitable work of Jehovah’s Witnesses (www.jw.org).

    To Elane’s Family:
I want to express my sadness at hearing of Elane’s passing.
I am proud to say that Elane and I were sisters-in-law for many years. I always appreciated her for the way she would “tell it like it is”. You always knew where you stood with Elane, that was so refreshing. Althought it has been several years since I had seen Elane, I still thought the world of her and remember the good times that we shared back then. She was an intelligent, beautiful woman and an extremely proud mother. I am honored to have been her sister-in-law. I am so sorry for the loss of your mother, Bret and Jacyln, she will be missed.
